Teaching Strategies for Engaging Learners

This interactive website from MERLOT’s ELIXR project was created with San Francisco State University to demonstrate how to engage students in the classroom. Engaged learning is a way to move beyond the passive lecturer-listener pedagogic paradigm. This site includes five college-level, digital case studies from SFSU covering:

Each case study includes videos and materials covering teaching philosophy, case stories, curriculum design, classroom activities, course syllabi, results, and additional materials.  These are real professors with real students in real classes sharing their wisdom and experience about how to make the college classroom and interesting an exciting place.

Student engagement brings the learners into the experience being presented.  Students are no longer passive recipients of instructions; they interact with the experience and actually build it as the situation progresses.
